Knowing and Applying God's Truth to Real Life
Matthew 6:33-34 (NKJV) But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
What Truth is Revealed? Let me be radical for a moment: Our lives should boil down to one main concern—How do I give myself fully to God? The first concern; the top priority; the deciding factor in my decision-making; my greatest passion, should all be about seeking the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.
What is the Command/Wisdom or Promise? There is an exceptional promise in this teaching; if we are fully devoted followers of Christ, “all these things shall be added to you.” What things? The necessities needed to sustain life. King David reflected on this point: Psalm 37:25-26 “I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread. He is ever merciful and lends; And his descendants are blessed.”
What Does this Mean to Me and What Action Should I Take? I need to be more single-minded in my pursuit of God and His Kingdom. “Seek first,” means that this must be my top priority in life. Sometimes, I find myself distracted by the cares of this world; or over-burdened by the weight of circumstances. In the words of the Apostle Paul, I need to “throw off” the weights that are weighing me down that I might run this race more effectively. I need to run in such a way as to win the prize!
