Knowing and Applying God's Truth to Real Life
Jesus – His Commands, Wisdom and Promises
Matthew 5:13 (NKJV)
"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
What truth is revealed? Jesus compares His followers to salt. He then explains that if the salt loses its flavor or “saltiness,” it loses the ability to function effectively.
What is the command, wisdom or promise? This certainly falls in the category of wisdom; but, it also serves as a warning to the Church. If the Church loses its spiritual edge, it also loses the credibility to be a voice to the culture.
What does this mean to/for me? For me it means that I personally must strive to be authentic in my faith. It means that I speak the truth in love; but, refuse to compromise and conform to the pattern of this world.
What action can/should I take? I am going to take a couple of actions. 1) Firstly, I’m going to pray that the Lord renews my mind and makes me aware of the “things” that desire to compromise my spiritual “saltiness.” 2) Secondly, I’m going to try to be the most loving contrarian (a person that doesn’t go along with the crowd) that I can be.
As revealed by God through the Life and Message of Christ; through the wisdom of Solomon; through the letters of the Apostles; through the inspiration of God.
