The Green Bay Packers flamed out in the NFL playoffs last weekend as they were defeated in overtime by the Arizona Cardinals. (In arguably one the of most exciting endings to a playoff game ever) The Packers played the season without quarterback Aaron Rodger's favorite target, Jordy Nelson, who tore the ACL in his right knee in the preseason. Without Jordy Nelson the Packers stumbled into the playoffs and Rodgers was not as effective.
So what makes Jordy Nelson so effective? He is speedy, has good size, is athletic, has soft hands and runs great routes. He is everything you want in a receiver and more. Underneath the football pads is a man of faith. A man who is outspoken and bold concerning his faith. In his own words: "Now, as a husband, father and, most importantly, as a Christian, I can see the Super Bowl Champion label with a greater perspective. I know it's an opportunity to share the most important truth of life: the gospel of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ."
Next football season, when you see Jordy Nelson catching another touchdown pass and he points to heaven making the "One Way" sign, you will know that you are watching a player who believes that he is playing football for the glory of the Lord. In all honesty, I'm not a fan of the Green Bay Packers--but, I will be cheering at Jordy Nelson's return!
