What does Believers Church believe concerning healing?
James 5:14-15 (ESV)
14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
Mark 16:17-18 (ESV) (Jesus speaking to His disciples)
17 "And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
At Believers Church we believe that God works in and through His people according to His own will and purpose. When it comes to the subject of healing, we look to scripture to gain understanding of how God works in and through us. According to the words of Jesus, "those who believe" will "lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." This is not our idea, this is what Jesus stated. James was inspired by the Holy Spirit to instruct "us" how to address sickness. We are to 1) call for the elders of the church, 2) who pray over the sick person, 3) anointing the sick person with oil. As we walk in obedience to the clear directives of scripture, we also walk with the expectation that the Lord will bring healing.
